Death Sentence

Tookie was put to death last night for his crimes. Murdering of i think 4 people.
Some question that the death sentence is going to be taken to court to be tried to be called unconstitutional?
Just thought i would post this here to get some input from the older population on here.
I know some people may change after time. However, at the time they commit the crime, if they were to be put to death then, would the person of changed?
Or were they a person society made is the phrase we here now.
Just looking for some thoughts and opinions.

I think if a person kills somebody then they should recieve the death penalty. That is unless it was by accident. Also the penalty should be carried out within a few days of the conviction.

The problem with that Hunter, is often there are people that die that are actually innocent. DNA evidence has freed tons of prisioners and proved that many innocent people have been murdered as a result of capital punishment.

did you guys know it costs more to execute someone than it is to leave them in jail the rest of thier lives?

I do not believe that.
The three chemicals they use for lethal injection, sodium penthal, Sodium thiopental, Pancuronium bromide, saline and in some state that use it Potassium chloride do not cost very much at all. With the dosages being id say around 100-150 milligrams of eash, keeping someone in prison for 35 years, with 3 meals a day, health coverage and other necesities that there is no way a execution costs more then a life sentance.

BTW I have done a couple papers on the death penatly, so I know some (not all) of the logistics of it, it has been a while since I was required to do one, so I could be off on some of the facts. I just wanted you to know I wasnt copying and pasting or BS'ing ya.

by the time you factor in all the court costs and the lawyer fees (that by the way we pay for), and all the appeals process it is a bunch more, I could go look at my notes from class but I'm to lazy to look it up, and I've had seven tests the last four days so I'm kinda burnt out.

there is the problem, if convicted. carry out the sentence, no longer then 1 year to be overturned, I see what you are saying now, I just was thinking along the lines of cost of death verses cost of incarceration, not the judicial part. Point taken.

That is why I said that court costs shouldn't be figured in quite that much considering most of these convicts fight to be paroled just like they fight death row. The costs end up almost evening out, so encarceration would be overall more costly.

I have always heard that as well LPDBlueDevils, but I would like to see the figures as to how. I just do not see how it is more affordable to keep for 30+ years.

Of course I do know that some people try and figure in appeals money and such, but those figures should be figured in also for those who are serving only a life term also.

I just don't understand why it took so long to execute this man. He laughed and made jokes about how one of his victims made gurgling sounds as he died. So why was Tookie allowed to live for so many years after being tried, found guilty, and sentenced??
